Edward and Henry were almost certainly brothers......the notation of Ethel as Daughter in 1891 was probably nothing more than a simple error

Hi,
Thanks for doing all that searching. Sorry I didn't get back earlier. Jan is right. Ethel was in 1901 as she has listed above but not in 1891.
Thanks again,
Simon.

So............you're disregarding the 1891 and 1901......even though there is a distinctly plausible reasoning behind my posting of it?
Obviously, I'm not saying I'm right, but I do think you could show me the courtesy of at least considering the info, and commenting on it.

Heya, Flick, dropping in as requested. ;) I have to spend most of the day working, but took a quick look -- looks reasonable to me!
Relationships were often fudged or assumed in censuses. I spent forever looking for someone recorded as Alice Coke, niece (and worse, born Spotland, per Ancestry, until I consulted the image and found it was Scotland). The only way she could have been the person's niece, with that surname, was if she was the daughter of my gr-grf's sister and her husband, and she just wasn't. After a lot more work, I figured out she was Alice Orr, probably the daughter of the brother of the husband of the person's sister. "Niece" was a lot easier to say than "sister's brother-in-law's niece".
The main question would be: were there actually two Ethel Preece-s born around that time and place?
Only one registered in Rochdale reg dist, where Castleton is:
Births Sep 1885 Preece Ethel Rochdale 8e 18
One in Blackburn Q1 1884 (2 yrs too old), one in Ulverston 1889 (much too young).
1851
John Preece 46 Sarah Preece 43 William Preece 12 John Preece 11 > Edward Preece 8 > Henry Preece 2
Civil Parish: Pontesbury County/Island: Shropshire
Brothers, it does seem.
Btw, what's this about a lookup earlier today? Not a duplicate thread, shurely?

The censuses were all there already, so it certainly makes little sense to start a new thread ... and not even offer the 1901 census info ... or even the names of the parents she's with ... !! Searching for unknowns is one thing; searching for knowns is really pretty pointless for the helpers.
