Richard are you winding us up ?

You had us looking for " Sarah (nee Statham), " not Stather and then never told us you knew about the Ellison connection.
Jax posted the 1871 census with Henry listed as Ellison.

Winding you up? I'm not winding anyone up. I apologise if you think that: it seems I made an honest typing error re Stather.

I'm fairly new to all this.

Thanks for your help. Goodnight.

Richard, what we aren't understanding is this.

You have apparently guessed at a father for your Henry: George Wiles.

Now you are guessing at another father for your Henry: William Wiles.

You can get the answer very easily by ordering one of Henry's marriage certificates, I'd say preferably the first, as more likely to be accurate.

If he reported his real father's name on that certificate (which would depend on whether he knew it, for one thing, his father having died when he was very young), then you will have the answer, or at least a more reliable answer than you now have.

You order certificates here:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

And for future ref, as the guidance at this site says, it is best to give *all* information you have. I, just for example, was hunting around for Henry Wiles in 1871, when you knew his stepfather was Ellison, and that is the name he's shown under in that year. People trying to help shouldn't have to "find" information that isn't lost, and it's never predictable what information might lead to an important clue.
