Finally found the death John W BURNHAM aged 80 in 1st Q 1949 at Buckrose which fits the family information. So John Read and John Burnham IS the same person and explains why the stories go that Emma Jane threw him out years before! |

Yikes! the plot thickens - wish someone could speak from the grave. But I am told that the oldies kept saying "what's in the past stays in the past" and I guess they are right....doesn't stop the old mind wandering though. thank you so much. |

Wow! you've all been so busy for me. thank you so much. Sad life for Emma Jane ; 7 out of 14 children died. Lots of mystery in the family regarding the changes of name from William to John Read and also the appearance of the name BURNHAM as middle names for some of the children - including my grandad Jack Burnham Read. |

The 1911 shows that John (William Henry ) had 9 children, 5 of them had died? |

Whether the marriage was Catholic or not there would still have to be a civil registration. It's looking very much as though they didn't marry. |

Thank you for your help so far. Still wondering what happened to Mr Read in 1911 as he's not in the same 1911 Census. I think he lived until the 1940's and was with Emma Jane in Bridlington, Yorkshire in 1913 - the year my grandad was born. |
