Find Ancestors

Trying to find Anne Jones wife of Robert Jones.
Anne is shown on 1911 cenus as born Penmorfa Carnarvon aged 61, so I have used het year of birth as 1850 (+/- 1)
Robert Jones is shown as born in Criccieth aged 62, used 1849 (+/-1) as his birth year.
I had no problem finding them in 1901 and 1891 census, exept that Robert Jones is not on the 1891 census but since he was a sailor, I assume that he was at sea.
Further back and I have drawn a blank. I have even tried with their daughter Ellen aged 12 in 1891 used birth year 1879 (+/-1) for her birth year.
What am I doing wrong

When did they marry?.
She might be under her maiden name

Where was Ellen born ?

I think that her maiden name was Griffith(s) Will try that now.

Is this Robert ?

The 1911 census says they have been married 39 years, i.e. 1871/2, and 12 children born, 9 living.

This Robert Jones is a general labourer, not a sailor. have I picked the wrong one:

If you get the birth certificate of one of the children, it will have the Mother's maiden name.

Apologies for being slow to reply but was called away from computer. Many thanks to all for all this information. I know that I am in the right place as I still remember sevral of my great aunts.

I know that Maggie/Margaret emigrated to America, any suggesstions on following that "red herring".

Patchem and MaureeninNY have Robert's family in 1881,1891,1901 which certainly look like the right family don't you think?

I have put the 1851, 1861 and 1871 together now which hopefully will be less confusing? I think it could possibly be Robert .....there are a few names the same Laura, Thomas and Griffith but it's very difficult with the surname Jones..... I've got a few in my family, they're a nightmare to find!

Digging through old l papers I have found Ann's obituary in 1931. Shows that she had nine grown up children to mourn her. Thomas in Australia, Griffith away at sea.her daughters Laura, Annie, Nellie, Jane, Hannah, Maggie(in California ) and Lizzie.
She was still living at 6 Chapel Terrace, Criccieth.
