Hi Maura
Thanks once again for latest info its all great stuff.

I noticed on the1901 census info you find-: Mary Anne Irwin @ age 46 widow , Margaret Fowles age 43,Agnes Irwin age 13. Then on the 1911
census Mary Anne Irvine age 63, Margaret Fowls age 64,and Agnes Irvine age 22, even though the census is only ten years later. Do you think we are looking at the same family even though all the names match and it fits Agnes, or is there another reason for the discrepancy?
Also why do you think the surname has gone from Irvine to Irwin in 1901 census, then in 1911 census one family has kept Irwin and one family gone back to Irvine, in 1901 census David is spelt Irwin, and in recent info his surname is again Irvine.

Would very much appreciate your thoughts on this.
Thank you very much.
Mike.

Yes Michael, I think they are the same family, if you look at the original census the name is Irvine, it been transcribed wrong. Mary Anne signs her name with a mark, because she can't read or write, back then people got very little schooling, so there's going to be decrepancies in their spelling & counting. Look at your message in your inbox I sent you Hugh marriage.

Help I am stuck again, can anyone help me with finding more info please,

From info I have I think Hugh's Farther Samuel Irvine was born about 1834.

He married Mary Ann Fowls July 1875, and was down as a widower.

On the 1901 census Mary is head of the family.

So can anyone help me to find out, Where Samuel was born (I think his fathers name was James) also any info on his first marriage, and if he had any children in that marriage, also any info on his death, I think he
Died aged 61 in 1895, but don't know were.

Many thanks to all.
Mike
