Margaret

you are very welcome!

I'm glad I could help.

I too think that "Lipton" was a mis-spelling or mis-transcription of Tipton

Also Sylvia - thank you for the information regarding Mary Shephard/Heydon. It says residence LIPTON but I have no idea where this is but think it could possibly be TIPTON in the West Midlands particularly as one of Mary's siblings married and moved to Tipton. I shall pursue this. Thank you for your help.

Sylvia and Ozibird - you little gems. What I wonderful surprise I woke up to this morning and logged on. I am highly delighted to say the least. What a coincidence to have these two born so closely together, and same named father and also being together on the birth registrations. I would never have solved this mystery on my own. Thank you both so so much.

Ozibird Report 22 Feb 2011 07:45

That's great, Sylvia. It confirms they're not twins. It was just such a coincidence to find them on the same page of the reg'n index.

Just goes to show why old timers in this game believe you need 3 pieces of evidence before you can claim an ancestor.

I agree with what you say.

Just a tip when searching for Keziah, only put Kez* because sometimes it has an 'h' on the end and sometimes it hasn't. Forgive me if you're already aware of this.

Margaret Report 21 Feb 2011 11:09

I too was wondering about the validity of the George and young Keziah found on the two census because of the supposed marriage date of George and Elizabeth(Betsy Ann). I have searched for an alternatice marriage possibly later but have found none. I have also re-checked the two census returns in case there was another Keziah Walker somewhere but nothing. I have also tentatively tried just inputting Keziah with no surname but with year of birth +/- in the hopes of finding Keziah with someone else in the area or surrounding area but have not found anyone as yet. I was wondering if young Keziah had actually died but have not found a death. I did find a marriage for a Keziah Walker to someone called Ison, but obviously I cannot be sure if it is the one on the census or if it is actually the one we are searching for. I have no idea about the possibility of young Keziah being 'adopted' by a Walker family member as I have not investigated the Walker side at all. I was only really doing the Shephard line and found the Shephard/Walker marriage. Never mind, we have given it a good try and sometimes you have to admit defeat rather than inpout what could be incorrect information. Thank you so much for your efforts.

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 20 Feb 2011 20:08

No, I don't think this is your George and young Kezia.

Your George:
Marriages Jun 1871
SHEPARD Kezia Foleshill 6d 580
WALKER George Foleshill 6d 580

1 year later, other George who has young Kezia:
Marriages Dec 1872
BUTLER Elizabeth Foleshill 6d 677
Walker George Foleshill 6d 677 (Coal Miner, c1841 from Foleshill according to census)

Mary Ellen is born 4 years later.
Your Kezia Shepherd dies 8 years later.
Deaths Jun 1880
Walker Kezia 28 Foleshill 6d 259

Afterthought:
It's too much of a coincidence for the girls not to be twins (and the name!!!). Is it possible young Kezia was adopted by a childless Walker relative? A cousin perhaps.

Just thinking out loud.

Margaret Report 20 Feb 2011 12:00

Ozibird - that is brilliant. I never dreamed that Mary Ellen was a twin. In fact the only way I knew of her existence was that because on the 1881 census, she is living with Kezia Shephard's elder brother Eli and his wife who appeared to have had no children of their own. That certainly solves the mystery of Kezia Shephard/walker. Her husband didn't take long to remarry did he ? Then again I suppose being left with two little children presented problems and letting one go to childless relatives was a perfect solution. Thank you so much for solving this mystery. My brain was so befuddled last night, I could neither think or see straight !!

It's certainly a possibility and I have made a note of it. I have had a most unsuccessful day today and have had enough. I am also searching for Mary's younger sister Kezia Shephard b. 1852. I have her married 1871 to a George Walker and a possible death 1880. I know she had one daughter Mary Ellen b. abt 1877 but once again there is no sign of them. My eyes are nearly falling out of my sockets so I am giving up just now and will have another go tomorrow. Thank you very much for trying to help.
