I am trying to find a marriage of Charles and Anne Jones - both born in Ruabon, Denbighshire.

Charles born 1818c and Anne 1810c but I do not have her maiden name.

Can anyone help please?

Have you got them with children in 1841 census?

Sue

Sue Report 12 Mar 2011 19:31

Not yet but two of their daughters were Sarah born 1843 and Jessie born 1848.

I think I've found them in 1861 and Charles was listed as having been born in Holt near Wrexham.

Oldest daughter(in this census) born Ruabon, so probably married there:

Estimated Birth Year: abt 1817
Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Anne Jones Gender: M (Male) Where born: Ruabon, Denbighshire, Wales
Civil parish: Chester St Oswald County/Island: Cheshire Country: England Occupation: carpenter Registration district: Great Boughton Sub-registration district: Cathedral Division ED, institution, or vessel: 1c Household schedule number: 21

Charles Jones 34
Anne Jones 40
Emma Jones 11
Thomas Jones 10
Sarah Jones 9
Eliza Jones 6
Jessey Jones 3

Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 2172; Folio: 59; Page: 8; GSU roll: 87162-87164.

Wonder if it is Anne's second marriage?

patchem Report 12 Mar 2011 19:36

Thomas and Sarah born Liverpool, Eliza in Birkenhead, and Jessey in Chester.

This will give Mother's maiden name:
Births Dec 1847
JONES Jessey Wirral 19 270

Can anyone find the family of Charles and Anne Jones in the 1841 Census? Should be in Ruabon Denbighshire I think.

Still can't find a definite date for their marriage (in Ruabon) though if you can help with that one please.

Thank you.

Have you found out Anne's maiden name (from Jessey's birth certificate)?
If it is a second marriage for Anne, then we would be looking for a different family in 1841.

I'll order it to find out and let you know. Thanks

I've one thought - as Thomas Jones (Jessey's older brother) is my direct ancestor, would his mother's maiden name appear on his birth certificate as well as Jessey's? Or was he born too early for that information to be registered? He would have been born around 1841 in Liverpool.

Registration began on July 1 1837

so you should be able to get a certificate.

How many Thomas Jones do you think were born in Liverpool around 1841?
Lots. (40?) (Thomas Jones 1839 to 1842, Liverpool)
So, Jessey Jones is a safer bet for names.
You can then request birth for Thomas with same maiden name to confirm.

Didn't think this one through did I! I'll do that.

Just received the birth certificate for Jessey and under that reference the father is Edward Jones and mother Elizabeth. Could you see if there's another Jessey about the same time(1847c) in the Cheshire area please? Also, on checking the 1871 census, Jessey is a girl.

In 1851 Jessey is definitely recorded as a son, so perhaps the enumerator was not concentrating.

There is this Jessey which must be the birth certificate that you have got:
1851 England Census
Jessey Jones
Age: 3 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1848
Relation: Daughter Father's Name: Edward Jones Mother's Name: Elizabeth Jones Gender: F (Female) Where born: Tranmere, Cheshire, England Civil parish: Tranmere Ecclesiastical parish: St Catherine County/Island: Cheshire Country: England
Registration district: Wirral Sub-registration district: Birkenhead ED, institution, or vessel: 2g Household schedule number: 57
Edward Jones 42
Elizabeth Jones 43
Ann Jones 10
Martha Jones 17
Price Jones 15
George Jones 12
Eliza Jones 9
Emma Jones 7
Jessey Jones 3
Edward Jones 5 MO
Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 2175; Folio: 905; Page: 17; GSU roll: 87168.
Sorry.

So we need another Jessey birth (the correct one!)

patchem

patchem Report 11 Apr 2011 18:24

This one:
Jessey recorded as Jessie:
Births Dec 1847
JONES Jessie Gt. Boughton 19 36

Great Boughton includes Chester St. Oswald which is where they are living in 1851, so looking good?

Sue

Sue Report 11 Apr 2011 18:35

Thanks I'll try that one

Sue

Sue Report 18 Apr 2011 16:24

Yes, this was the right birth thank you. Anne's maiden name was Williams.

Please let me know if you find any marriage around the Ruabon area for late 1830's/early 1840
