Find Ancestors

I am trying to find out what became of my great-grandmothers two brothers; William Dunford Ayling and Percy C (possibly for Charles as fathers middle name) Ayling. Birth years 1908 and 1911. My GRat grandmother went in to care aged 7 and never heard any thing of them thereafter.
In the 1911 census they were residing at 15 church street, steyning, sussex. They were living with William and Rosina Scammell who I have discovered were loosely related.
William travelled to Canada as a home child in 1921 aged 14. He travelled on the "Scandinavian" ship. His destination was Toronto but I dont know where he went after that or if he had any children.
Their parents names were Ellen Jane Duford and William Charles Ailing. I know nothing of what became of them after they had these children.

Is there any way of finding out is the two boys married or had any children?

Ellen jane Dunford of Linton Road Sussex lived remarkable close to a married man named william Ayling though I cant find a middle name for him.
Cant find a marriage between an Ellen Dunford and a William Ayling either. Would it have been normal to have used the fathers surname on the birth certificate even if they werent married?

Yes that could well have been the case If that is her in 1911 it does'nt look like she married him.

Looks to me that Ellen married a John cotterall later on??

Bingo...The Ellen Ayling of William and Ellen and the married brewer live d just down the road from one another

I wonder if his wife knew about the three children he had with Ellen?

One can only guess, it looks like Rose was a bit older that William. Maybe they didn't have any children of their own. I am trying to contact the decendants of Rose to see if there were any stories passed down.

In a letter I have from her original orphanage record it says that her dad stopped paying maintinence and left to be with his brothers wife. Seems like a bit of an odd story now we know her parents weren't married.
