Need Help! We are trying to discover death dates for Thomas Tallon born 1808 Whittington Lancashire and his wife Rebecca born same year at Storth, Sandside, maiden name Jackson.
We, meaning Myself and four Cousins. We have all other information on these two, as in their marriage date 1829, their Parents, Grand-parents and so on. We have all their childrens names and details, but we cannot find death records for Thomas and Rebecca anywhere. Thomas was a Blacksmith.
Their two eldest, John J and Thomas Tallon were born in Hutton Roof, close to Whittington. The family then moved to Blackburn Lancashire, were the rest of the chidren were born. They appear on the 1841 Blackburn Census, but they were hard to find. As their surname was badly transcribed, also only initials where used for their first names.
Their last child Rebecca Tallon was born 1844, .
On the 1851 Census the children are living back in Whittington at Newton Village, in two seperate houses, listed as paupers. No trace of their parents, so somthing must of happened to Thomas and Rebecca between 1844 (after birth of last child) and 1851? We have looked for mis-spelt Surnames as in Fallon Tallan Tallant and so on. Both in Blackburn, Whittington, Kirkby Lonsdale and Hutton Roof, but nothing. We need some fresh eyes on this one please.

Hi

Does anyone know out of curiosity, if people drowned and the bodies were never recovered, would death certificates be issued? Or does there always have to be a body as proof of death. I think there does have to be a body but not certain.

Thanks

You say that the 1841 census mistranscribed as Sallon is the right family.
Thomas's age might have been rounded down but it would seem Rebecca's wasn't ( 28).
This would indicate a birth in the 2nd half of 1812.

Baptisms: 6 Sep 1812 St Oswald, Warton Nr Lancaster, Lancashire, England
Rebecca Jackson - Daughter of Robert Jackson & Ann [formerly Burrow]
Born: 17 Aug 1812
Abode: Silverdale
Occupation: farmer

Married in Oct 1829, she would have been 17 .
Not unknown for brides to add a few years on the cert.

What name and occupation did Rebecca give for her father on her marriage cert ?

EDIT :
that should be parish record - I realise no marriage certs before 1837

Have you checked all the census after 1841 just in case Thomas and Rebecca are still alive?

I know in 1851 the children are down as Paupers, but that dosn`t nessecarily mean that both parents were dead.

Have you followed all the children through their marriages and found them on every census?........not unheard of for elderly parents to be living with their grown up married children.

Just spotted Mike's posts just as I was about to log off for the night. It was UKBMD that say's Rowlinson and Online Parish records give Rowlinson on Isabella's burial record. I did see the Fallon mis-spelling.

Nickydownsouth

No I don't have a copy of Isabella's marriage cert, but I do have her Brother's marriage Cert 1856 and gives father Thomas Tallon Blacksmith, and does NOT say Deceased. Then a Marriage in Scotland 1886 which names both Father, Thomas and Mother, Rebecca, BOTH Deceased. I love how Scottish Records name both Parents on all BMD's. How many times I have looked at that first marriage cert and never really noticed that it appears that Thomas was alive, Duh... I will look into their Sister Rebecca's marriage record and see what it says for Father

Thanks very much for that, Nicky. Been searching this family on and off for quite sometime and forgot about that 1856 marriage cert.
