Am I right in thinking that these two John Holderness above are the same?
Just that it states that his birth 1776 but then in the lower one states that Baptism year was 1774 which is two years before??

Sorry x

Ages in 1841 were rounded down to nearest 5 for over-15's.

In any case, birth years on censuses are estimated, based on the person's declared age.

So, census taken - say - 31st March..................

Someone born 30th March will appear on a census with an estimated birth year one in advance of someone born 1st April same year

Doesn't apply in 1841, as I've already explained
Look at ANY census record on Ancestry and you will see that the birth year is clearly defined as 'estimated'

Its shocking, i'll have to order the death certificates to see what they died of.

This Holderness family has really got me hooked and I don't know why, something has got me biting at the bait.

To All

Wow 5 generations back, and showing as coming from the Bray, Berkshire area.
Not to far from me at all, so when this situation we are all in is over I shall be paying a visit to the area, maybe see if there are any Parish records that I can gain access to. Would love to know more about this family.

Erika .............

I'm just asking as I have been amazed at how you have worked out all the ramifications of this family for Samantha .......

did you look at FreeReg??

Is it possible that there would be some Parish Records on there?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 31 Mar 2020 17:35

Thanks for the kind words

Didn't get that far, Sylvia.

A good idea for Samantha, though

How can you say that you didn't get that far???

You have done an amazing job and I am truly grateful.

FreeReg I've not heard of this.

Samantha .............

FreeReg is a free site where volunteers are transcribing parish registers.

You might have to play with it a little as you might have to work out how to get variations in spellings. Name Soundex does give variations, but many of them might be way out in left field.

This is the site ..........
