Birth certificates are NOT on any site......anywhere

Birth registrations are indexed on various sites.

The ONLY way to see the certificate is to fork out £9.25 to buy it

The records available on line show your name and your mothers maiden name - plus the Volume and Page from the GRO record. For fathers detail and other info (address, exact date of birth), you have to buy the cert.

Elizabeth - you need to buy a copy of your certificate.

You MUST edit that last post to remove your surname and year of birth. Not a good idea to put personal info on a public forum.

Yes, free site. However your 1955 may not be transcribed yet. You won't have to wait long, my sister born in 1955, is there.

Yes. On the cert are spaces for the father's name, and the mother's name including her maiden name.

Ozi

P.S. "Looked it up on here", does that mean this website? Have you looked on www.freebmd.org.uk?

Elizabeth, Ozi and Andy have answered your question.

If the name's not on your certificate, it isn't going to be anywhere else, sadly.

Edit: I gather you mean you've found your birth registration record? If so, the surname is usually the father's name and the mother's maiden name is also listed. If the surname and the mother's maiden name is the same then that usually implies that the mother was unmarried.

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 20 Apr 2011 21:47

So what you are saying that normal birth certificates on here have 2 names

ELIZABETH

ELIZABETH Report 20 Apr 2011 21:46

is there a way on this site to see both names ?

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 20 Apr 2011 21:45

You only have one birth cert, Elizabeth. If it doesn't have your father's name, unless your mother told you, you won't find it.
