You could get the will of his father to see if any provision was made for him or grandchildren. How do you know he was in London from 1875 if you cannot find him in the censuses?

There are a couple of mentions of a Mr.Augustus Alger but I will leave them to you as I do not know if he is the man you seek

I posted the 1881 for his parents

fathers name was Cleer Sewell Alger so reckon that Augustus Sewell Alger death is the right one

He was Augustus Alger at his birth and Augustus Sewell Alger at his death.
There is another Augustus Frederick Alger from Bristol. He isn't my relative I can't find my relative or a family for him in the 1881, 1891, census. I know he was in prison in 1901 census It was on the trial details that say he was married and had two small children to support.
I have looked everywhere I can think of. Maybe someone knows the decendants of Augustus.
