Q
May I enquire how you know the month that he was born? There does not appear to be a birth registration of a Joseph Redfern in Bury in the Oct~Dec Qtr 1886.

Jenny,
As there does not appear to be a birth registration in Bury perhaps Joseph Redfern was not actually his name at birth. Unfortunately during that Quarter there were lots of Joseph births registered in Bury so it is difficult to determine whether he might be one of those. Apart from the name of his father which I am assuming you obtained from the marriage certificate do your family records contain any other clues about his past?
