I would have though by convention the marriage would be in the brides home town / village.

lancashireAnn Report 21 May 2011 00:07

could the 1727 / 1728 confusion be due to the different start month of the new year which only changed to Jan in 1751 so some records when transcribed caused the transcribers a small problem - which year did they say it was for the months of jan-march?

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 20 May 2011 23:56

Simon

that opc record transcription does say Cardwell of Mellor not Caldwell

Jennet was a popular name at that time and I hope for your sake that it is Caldwell that you end up looking for but I suspect not. Cardwell are even more abundant than Heatleys in west Lancs

so the Woodplumpton (7 mls WNW of Samlesbury on the other side of the R. Ribble) may not be the one you want. Mellor is to the E of Samlesbury - actual abode on that one is Eaves which is a bit further north

not a clue - just responding to your statement that there were no Caldwell's in the whole of Blackburn prior to 1830!!!

Simon

Are these Caldwells related to Jennet?

Where was Robert Caldwell born?

No record of any Caldwells in Mellor

And no Caldwell in the whole of Blackburn prior to 1830.

I think the Lancs OPC record must be wrong
