Thank you for your replies. I have established that Richard Cornelius married Mary at Little Chart in 1775 and Richard was from Hougham. It is Mary's family name that is eluding me at present. Hodgsome seems to be unique and does not appear eslewhere than on that record at Little Chart. Albeit the name next to her mark is seeming Hodgham??

Had a stroke of luck today. A helpful archivist at Canterbury went one step further than I expected and did a look up for me and found that the banns relating to Richard Cornelius who married at Little Chart showed he was of the parish of Hougham. Mary is shown as Hodgsome of the parish of Little Chart in the main text but then apparently spelled Hodgham by her mark. Strangely Hodgsome only appears in relation to this marriage but nowhere else???

I would like to get some comparisons of similar names for Mary within Little Chart. I seem to recall that on the old Family Search format there used to be a method of bulk searching the records of a parish. Can anyone please help as to how you can access them now.

I wonder if the marriage at Little Chart shows signatures.

Maybe we could find Richard signing some sort of parish record in Hougham...

Maybe he left a Will, which might have his signature...?

Always likely to be a problem without some sort of corroborative evidence I know. Probably is them as the first sibling at Hougham dates 1776. Thanks for sharing you knowledge again.

I cut and pasted the address and it worked OK :D There seems to be quite a few siblings and associated trees on Ancestry. Just wonder Richard and Mary could be; on Family Search:

although it is about 20 miles or so from Dover. The date would be quite close?

Then put Cornelius in the last name box and Hougham, Kent in the place box. You should get the page up then.
