Hi,

I'm now looking for Matthew Hopewell Garton born 1855 Nottingham wife was Fanny. He may have died 1926 Lincolnshire. Cannot find him on 1881 census but he may be down as Hapewell Garton on 1891 census in Lincoln but I cannot access the records on Ancestry to check.

Wendy, I have come to realise that our forbears really liked their 2nd names! This caused me no end of trouble with my lot I can tell you.
Lucky his 2nd name was so distinctive!

My laptop's on a go slow now

Hi tempest,

thank you no wonder I couldn't find him, I was looking on the familysearch site 1881.

Jan, Hopewell was his grandmother's maiden name, my own great grandfather used his middle name as his surname and it took me 6 years to find out.

Again thank you all so much you are all great.
