Hi, I wonder if anyone can assist me in proving that I am on the right 'line' re my tree and assist in me getting further back.....

I have traced my Stenhouse family back from the Scottish Broxburn/Bathgate area Stenhouses in the 1880's to Robert Stenhouse bn 15.04.1718 in Inverkeithing, Scotland, then to his father, Robert Stanehus, bn 30.12.1683, then to his father, Robert Stanehus or Stenhus bn c1658, Dunfermline. The latter was married to Margaret Russell c 1680. I am stuck there at the moment.

I have found few Stenhus's dated 1500's, on various sites whilst researching, one in particular, a William Stenhus bn 1595 was mentioned on the net by an Auatralian chap as being one of my relations but I have lost his address and I would like to know if anyone can help me either connect them or take me further back.

Another 'fly in the ointment' is that I found a tree on a site, Midlothian Miscallenae, which traced two Robert Stenhouse bn 1718 in Inverkething but stated that neither 'had any issues'. The grandfather of these two was a John Stenhouse 1614 - 1682, the two Roberts had different fathers though, one was a John 1680 - 1764 and a James, similar date range.

I have tried to gain access to the aforementioned MM site via their 'Contact Us' button with no reply forthcoming.

Can anyone 'put me right' ?

ROBERT STANAS Pedigree
Male
Birth: 12 JAN 1677

Christening: 21 JAN 1677 Inverkeithing, Fife, Scotland
He is in with the Stenhouse batch ,so Familysearch geneologist have decided that is his name ,and he is the only one with that spelling.

This is why i'm asking

The aforementioned Robert Stenhouse bn 30.12.1683 in Dunfermline was married to Helen Henderson bn 20.07.1689 in Inverkeithing on 19.10.1712.

The Robert Stenhouse bn 15.04.1718 was married to Helen Adamson on 06.12.1740 in Inverkeithing.

If my line IS through the aforementioned John 1614 - 1682 the MM site mentioned has his ancestry dated back to John 1530 - 1586.

Hope this helps someone to help me !

Robert Stanhouse in Dalgetty married Helen Hendersone of this parish.Unless a person is babts .then it is a bit hit and miss.Unless we(helpers) spend in Scotlandspeople then we are left with the IGI.

I believe that if the aforementioned JOHN bn 1614-1682 fellow is in my tree then the line goes back from

Robert bn 1718 -

Robert 1667 - 1743,

John 1614-1682,

Robert 1581-1624,

Thomas 1559 - 1610, then

John 1530 - 1586. (married to Mgt Douglas).

Hope this helps.

Is there any proof of the move from Dalgetty /Inverkeithing to Dunfermline?

If not then you can't go there.

Ellen, my information comes from various sources which I then try to corroborate, anything from other persons trees on Genes or My Heritage I then go to confirm it on Scotlandpeople OPR's etc, and on references on the likes of Rootsweb on Ancestry, IGI, other Genealology sites like the Midlothian one I mentioned, also FamilySearch.org among others, I have, for instance, from the last mentioned, a print out re 'Scottish Marriages, 1561-1910' which shows that a Robert Stenhouse married Helen Henderson on 19 October 1712 in Inverkeithing, Fife, Scotland. The indexing project (batch) number is M11432-5 (that is exactly how it is described, which may mean something to you but not to me), the System origin is : Scotland - ODM and the source film number is 1040112. This is the sort of thing I have used.
Hope this helps anyone helping me !!
I am a total beginner at this, albeit I joined Genes two years ago I only recently started to build the tree.

Hello Ellen, I still cannot find the posts I read earlier. In response to your question about the 1881 census, I never actually mentioned the census, just the fact the my branch of the family came from the Broxburn/Bathgate areas in the 1880's, that was just a piece of general information I mentioned in case someone already had the information to hand re our branch.
My great grandfather was George Paton Stenhouse, born 22 december 1858 in Bathgate.

I cannot find any of my posts re this. Where are they ? I have gone to threads, added posts, clicked on the 'watch this' and only once have I found the comments made in the Find Ancestors. What am I doing wrong? Ireaise that to get an answer I will HAVE to find the subject somewhere. AAAaaaaaaaagghhhhh.

Hello again, sorry about the confusion, entirely my own fault. I have now read the FAQ's ansd found that I should have hit the 'add reply' button before submitting the post. I don't know where the other posts I put on last night have gone, I did see them, once, and others, from Ellen etc, then could not find them again. I cannot find any of them today.
