Just another thought is that this lady, who may well be the aunt, could have been called 'aunt' as a courtesy title as we didn't call adults by the first name when we were children- jl

The library was great. sent me the info by email - good news Martha was still living there but her name was Moxham not Cochan!
I checked the letter and it worked.
Thanks to everyone who helped.

You can only check the register by address. Good luck, let us know how you get on!

Nice one. I never knew you could do that. Do you know if the address only could be checked so that I could find out who was living there. i am thinking it is possible that Martha was there either before or after the war and that it might clarify her name. Massive thanks for the info anyway.

You would need some one to visit the library for that area to physically check the registers

Some libraries will do a check for you - sometimes free but they can charge

For electoral register at this time (before & after the war!) you have to look in person, or ask the staff to do so for which there might be a charge. Records are kept at the nearest main library.

is it possible to check them at any year I wonder. After the war maybe? Or is this not possible?

Electoral registers were not done during WW2

Sorry MarieCeleste,
Didnt see the comment re address. Yes there is an address. It is 30 Upper Gynor Street, Ynyshir, glamorgan. I have checked this address on the 1911 census and the names are unrelated. Is there anyway to check the electoral roll for 1942?
Thanks.

Thanks!!
I have been searching for this one. Shame but nice to rule it out. I suspect the signature is misleading. It is such a pity cos it is one of the few leads we have. Thanks again.

Think this birth rules out the 1911 census

Name: Leila Elfrida M Cochram
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1905
Registration district: Cardiff
Inferred County: Glamorganshire
Volume: 11a

Unless it could match the surname on the letter
