Dear Lynski,

thank you for that...

back to the drawing board.

I have Caroline's 2 marriages in Australia 1873 & 1875 both state she was born in Horsham Victoria, her death was filled in by her 2nd husband in 1906 aged 52, he stated she had lived for 2 years in England and 50 years in Australia, I have not found a birth in Australia so I am checking England,
her father Thomas was from Birchington Kent, her brother William Henry Sayer was born in 1852 in Kent to Thomas Sayer and Eliza Page.

Shipping record's:Thomas Carpenter by trade 34,Eliza-23,children:Thomas-6,William-1 arrived in Australia in December 1852 aboard BOMBAY
Code B- Fiche 020- Page 008.

Thomas aged 6 is Eliza's son (PAGE)

Thomas-38,Eliza-27,children:Thomas-10,William-4 arrived in Australia in November 1855 aboard ANGLESEY Code B- Fiche 101- Page 002.

still no Caroline, her mother died in Australia in 1856, Thomas stated that Caroline was 18 months old.

Maybe her birth wasn't registered??

Hi Lynski,

thanks for checking...I was hoping I may have found it by myself, but couldn't, will just have to keep going back to check.

your input has been wonderful and the name of Caroline Sarah makes more sense than what the cemetery has of Caroline Stella.

Cheers!

There are two baptisms in St Johns, Margate to Thomas and Eliza. One as above for Caroline Sarah as already posted and brother William dated 18 January 1852.

The details of the marriage in St Johns are as follows:-
12 October 1850 by Banns
Thomas Sayer (Widower) of full age, Labourer, son of Edward, Labourer
Eliza Page (Spinster) of full age, daughter of Thomas, Groom.

Hope this helps

They were both of this Parish.
The witnesses were Caroline Page (sister?) and George Dixon

I have found the 1st marriage of Thomas SAYER to Sarah CHAPMAN in Dec 1838 in Isle of Thanet, Kent...

also her death in September 1846, but finding it very hard to try and find if there were any children born to them?

also Sarah's age at death which may help in tracking her birth.

Many thanks if someone can add any information or where I can check.

Lynski Report 24 Jun 2011 05:05

I would say that, if they had any children then they probably didn't survive because thomas doesn't have any with him in 1851??

There are a lot of births and deaths between 1838 and 1846 in the district of Thanet on FreeBMD.

I have tried checking some of them on familysearch org to see if I can match the parents but nothing so far............

cupcakes Report 24 Jun 2011 05:44

it's a wonder I didn't run into you there...

I have the death of Thomas but there is no mention of his 1st marriage,
so yes I would say there were probably no children.

I think I need a bigger shovel..LOL

Choccy

Choccy Report 24 Jun 2011 08:43

Marriage as transcribed KFHS

Thomas Sayers (sic) married Sarah Chapman by Banns on
18 December 1838 at Birchington
They were both recorded as being of full age!
He was a bachelor (otp) son of Edward
She was a spinster (-) daughter of William
Both fathers were labourers
Witnesses William Love, R'd. Busbridge

I can find no baptisms for the couple either in Birchington or Margate.

There appears to be only one likely burial for Sarah Sayer and that is in Bichington dated 7 April 1850. She was stated to be 33 years of age and brought from Margate.

There is a baptism record for a Sarah Chapman in Birchington dated 7 March 1819 daughter of William & Sarah.
