It was in Norman Street. If you google the name of the pub it will bring up several links to the area including one which has a photo of the pub.
(Think it was Birmingham History Forum)

sorry if i caused offence to anyone...i was just offering a suggestion on alternative spelling.

the marian and marion are just what I was aware of.

didnt mean to imply that mariOn COULDNT be female.

Of course! Given that family found in census were publicans -that fits!

wisechild Report 25 Jun 2011 14:43

PH is an abbreviation for Public House.
Nothing to do with the prison.
Don´t think it´s there any more (the pub that is, not the prison!!!)

If the family above is correct, this looks like sister Lilly's birth.

Her name was MARION.....as per her marriage record, which is from freebmd, where you can easily check yourself

BOTH forms of the name are feminine...........I have friends with both spellings

Flick

Flick Report 25 Jun 2011 14:12

I can't see a record on freebmd of a birth in the Birmingham area.........

Please say where you got her birth info............

MarieCeleste Report 25 Jun 2011 14:08

My mother was also MariOn!

Sue - are you sure it isn't the "Cottage of Content"? There is now a community centre there.

MargaretM Report 25 Jun 2011 14:06

I have to disagree, Elaine. I know many female Marions. I also have an Aunt Marion. Marian is often a short form for Mary Ann.

Confirms maiden name..................

Marriages Dec 1921 (>99%)

Chambers Marion Shaw Birmingham 6d 676
Shaw William H Chambers Birmingham 6d 676

Please say what you think your 'brick wall' is................it is hard to imagine what it could be, with so much info readily available.

You refer to her birthplace in detail - where did you get that info?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 25 Jun 2011 14:03

Is this the marriage?

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
Marriages Dec 1921

Chambers Marion Shaw Birmingham 6d 676
Shaw William H Chambers Birmingham 6d 676

Guessing it may be William Henry Shaw?

As I said earlier, you really need her marriage certificate.
