Thanks everyone - seems that nobody can find her and her children. Maybe they were at sea sailing from South Africa to the UK. |

Sorry but I knew of the Cory's but didn't know that lived adjacent to their brother/uncle and the name Fridrich Richert 12 without Cory surprised me. I wouldn't have suspected him there (and being daft wouldn't have recognised the Cory surname initially). Sorry to be seen to be unappreciative of your researches on my behalf. But William & Mary Ann were negotiating with the Boer generals and met Winston Churchill in Lindley before their town was burnt down by the British in their scorched earth policy. No record of the return sailing but nan was "packed off" to help her "poor" sister that had been so much in the "last two years" according to the letter written by the sisters' father JLC Brooke. |

Does your Brooke line tie in with these Brookes? |

On the original it looks like Frederick Robert Coy(?) - visitor -and it's the same surname as Frances Emma on the next page. |

Maybe I'm wrong and the Enumerator was reading a Gaelic equivalent "Mary Ann Fanrsfeuar". John & father William perhaps in Elgin together with the same variation in 1891 and all of them in 1901? Am I grabbing at straws? |

Thanks folks - I'd got all that and my supposition is that "John Loombe Culham Brooke" b 10:20am 12 Nov 1890 at Brook Cottage, Moycroft, Elgin, Moray was with the family elsewhere (with the g'parents back in Elgin. |

What were the initials of your nan's parents? There's an "infant" Brooke sailing in 1901with a Mr & Mrs C J Brooke on the SS Yarrawonga. It's going from Sydney to London, but they got on it in Cape Town. |

I know that they quit SA before Nov 1901 as nan was with them then. I have them on the Braemar Castle sailing back from Southampton Sept 1902. They were said to be in England & Scotland for 2 years and so I imagined that be on some census but ...... |

In the Spence group is Florence Wylie Spence and nan who was possibly with them for part of their evacuation was either Florence Wylie Brooke or Emma Florence Wylie Brooke. |
