Carol, as you have said that Kirby was the surname of her previous husband then the chances of her birth/maiden name being Kirby?is about a million to one, so the family in the 1911 census will probably not be your Isabella Kirby, Shotton is not that small and you have no proof that she was born their, you only no? she was from county durham

i say it again you need the marriage cert

The marriage in free bmd does not show two possible names for Isabella - i.e. not an original maiden name, and subsequent married name before marrying Mr Saich, which implies she had not been married before - unless recordings of 2 surnames does not show in bmd until later years?
Interestingly, there is a birth for a Saich/Kirby, but before that 1943 marriage, but with child's name Dorothy. Make of that what you will.

patchem, you are correct about there only being one name in the index for Isabella and it implies she had not been married before,
but the cert is still the best way to be 100% sure that the family you found in Durham is the correct one eg, her age at time of marriage, her fathers name and occupation, and even sometimes witness's names can be invaluable.

Tony Blair implied sadam had weapons of mass destruction and look where that got us :-)

If she didn't know who her father was then there wouldn't be 2 entries anyway
