Oh my gosh Barbara you have been busy, Thank you so much, every thing has now fallen in place, I am trying to get my head around it all.

I found articles in newspapers, 1 on Barton William Wheeler, 12 on Barton William Eldridge & 4 on William Barton Eldridge,
A lot of them were pub related & fighting, naming pubs & streets, I new them all [not that I ever went in them] I found them all hilarious.

Thank you again for all your help, it is much appreciated.

Ann Report 22 Jul 2011 02:40

Hi Barbara,
Bedworth ? place, Yes that is right, I know it. I have found a snippet in the old newspaper Saturday, April 09, 1898, about William Wheeler of Bedworth Place Porter was sacked,& wanted his wages.

I don’t have the occupation of Ellen and Barton marriage in 1882, I only have a transcript, I will send for a copy.

“The Isle of Wight Record Office holds a set of photocopies of marriage registers. These are from 1837 to 1910 only and for Anglican Churches only on the Isle of Wight. Copies can be made from these photocopies for 30 pence a sheet plus a service charge of £3.00,”
They do give the signatures of the parties to the marriage and the two witnesses,& trade of parties
I usually send for batches of 10 at a time, so I will add Ellen and Barton to my list.

Thank you for theory, There may be a connection,
11 May 1854 ELDRIDGE William F B, WHEELER Eliza F S, ELDRIDGE Charles, [brides father!] GLADDIS Richard, Newchurch

I also found a article Saturday, September 20, 1884 “Barton William Wheeler (otherwise Eldridge) of Players St, Touter charged with assaulting his wife Ellen Wheeler,” he was drunk, it went into great details, the local PC was there & his father a lot of shouting & swearing went on, it had me in stitches I could just imagine it all,
Barton William was fined “10s & cost ; indefalt,14 days’ hard labour.”

Deaths 1885 WHEELER Barton 43 born 1841 - 1842 Ryde
And 1890 WHEELER William Barton 41 born 1848 - 1849 Ryde

Was there an Address for 1891 census? Ellen Eldridge 43 -
Thank you again.

Hi Ann

What I was trying to say on above posting was if the Barton William WHEELER who married Ellen was "brought up" by William Eldridge and Eliza--He MAY have used the name Eldridge for everyday BUT on official records used his birthname Wheeler. Just maybe Ellen gave ELDRIDGE to the enumerator in 1891 census (as he did in 1881)

This looks like the
Extracted Christening record for Barton c1852

Hi Ann
Just a theory--it may be all no good !!!

What is the occ off Barton on Ellen and Bartons marriage cert ? Is he a BAKER ?

In the "actual image" for the 1881 census it looks (to me) as if Barton W. ELDRIDGE is age 30 ---not 50 !!!

I believe Barton W. ELDRIDGE (who Ellen and William was lodging with in 1881) and Barton William WHEELER (who Ellen married) are the same person.

Thank you Sue & Barbara
My father told me he was an ironmonger? maybe he was later on [I will check that out],
Yes that is the right family every thing fits except his trade, Hatty is living a few doors from her brother who also worked on the railway, I have the marriages of the girls in the census.
I don’t like to keep asking a lot of question to the lady born in 1919 as she gets a little confused but I will look in to it more,

Thank you for the deaths you found.

That is a large gap between 1907 and 1919.
Is the later birth definitely his family?
Not having any luck with 1911 (though it is playing up on my computer so is rather frustrating to search) Have tried profession, names of daughters without surnames, using Barton and Cottell as surnames, etc
Have you got him in 1901?
Thanks
