There is another post about Williamina's father William John Herring born in Dundee, I am searching for his father John, that seems to be pretty difficult

are you in touch with the person who corrected Williamina's name in the 1901 census at Ancestry ?

Well, firstly, thankyou for your time searching. This is not my direct Herring family research, it is one of 5 other Herring familys I am researching in Sunderland. I am trying to find early connections, to possibly combine them someday. So I don't really know anything about the Gelderts or Metcalfs.

What I have so far is:

BTW, Williamina was probably named after her father William John Herring, he died Aug 1884, accidently fell overboard on the ship "German Emperor" and drowned.

If anybody's interested on more, the tree on ANCESTRY is called HERRING SUNDERLAND IV.

I don't have a Gladys Royal in this tree

hm, daughter of the widowed head of household aged 42 ... 9 years younger than the next youngest ... might one think maybe not ? :-)

unless Williamina had a child and had to register the birth in her husband's surname as they were still married even if estranged

I have been looking for them under different surnames, but my fmp 1911 is mis-behaving, and nothing obvious. If they definitely had a child after 1911 they must have stayed together at least until then?

I wonder whether Cippy knows anything else about these people she could tell us !

for instance maybe they did not stay together and Williamina appears under a different surname in 1911 if she is living with another man ....

No, wrong memory. Only Agnes obvious is a different one in Leeds

Geldert births registered in Sunderland district 4th quarter 1908 to second quarter 1911 ... Agnes looks like a possible ... and both Robert & Gladys and Gladys & Agnes look like an either or ... looking for them in 1911

only found Gladys Royal GELBERT living with, it looks like, parents William and Beatrice and grandmother Mary Elizabeth and many children

so it looks like maybe Agnes and Robert belong to our couple ...

It certainly was Chrissiex......


although I still cannot find the family on the 1911.

I can't find hide nor hair of the Gelderts in 1911 either ... they were in Sunderland when their child Jane was born in 1913 ...

Will delete the 1911 I found as it is not the right couple.
