Does anyone have any information about a George Seppings (could be spelling variation) Mitchell b 1777 (baptism on 25/05/1777) and d circa 1847. He married an Elizabeth Everitt. I'm unsure of her dates but I do believe they were married in Fakenham on 31/01/1814. They had two children, a Mary Ann b 1820 in Fakenham. I'm unsure if she married or when she died and another George Seppings b 1827 who emigrated to New Zealand although Im unsure when.

George (1777 George that is) father was John Mitchell and I beleive he was born c1838 and died in 1793. I beleive he may have married a Frances Seppings in Fakenham, hence where the Seppings name comes into my family tree??

To give you some more information

Sorry that should have been John was born about 1738

I've worked back to these people from my great great grandfatther George William Mitchell b 18/08/1859 at St Pancras Middlesex. Somewhere between the 1861 census and 1863 they migrated to NZ where I have better access to their records. The only problem I had with the NZ records was one of his certificates says he was born in NZ while another one said he was born in England.I think he may have lied about the NZ DOB as it doesn't make sense

His father I believe was George Seppings Mitchell b 1827 in Fakenham. He married Ann Roberts

His father was also a George Seppings Mitchell also born in Fakenham in 1777. He married Elizabeth Everitt in Fakenham in 1814

and finally his father was John who the intial query was about...

I dont have any certificates from England yet to prove this however.

Most of the above info I have however Flick, it appears Selina was born to Ann from a previous marriage.

My biggest stumbling block is John and Frances still, as Tenerfie Sun points out, none of their children is named George. Perhaps this is not my relation after all

Not necessarily from a previous marriage...........in the case of Ann's child.

You say that you have 'worked' back from George born 1859.....then say you 'believe' his father was........etc.

If you wish to have accurate info, I would strongly advise that you buy the cert for George's marriage to Ann. It will tell you the name and occupation of his father.......

George William may not have realised that he was born in England...........if he wasn't given the info by his parents, he'd have had no reason to think he hadn't been born where he grew up

The baptism I posted for George born 1859 removes any doubt you may harbour about the names of his parents

Thanks for your help as well Tenerife Sun....One would assume that the John Mitchell born in Fakenham would be my best bet.... I think its time to invest in some certificates.

I know what info you get the most from in NZ, but for the English certificates, do you get more information out of a wedding certificate or a birth certificate?

In the case of John Mitchell 1738 Fakenham there will not be certificates as the date is too early for this
