Find Ancestors

Hi All,

Thank you all for your quick responses and all the information which backs up our already compiled. We went to Thornham the other week and found no sign our Tann family having lived in the village, however William would have been 15-19 years old in 1841 so could have been working away from home this would answer the entry on that census. It looks like Thomas could be the father of William on the marriage certificate; though we are not that sure. The second son of William and Elizabeth is called Thomas also a good clue.

Any further leads or ideas will be more than welcome, it is at times like this it would be nice to phone them up and ask the question, on the other hand tracing ancestors would not be interesting, exasperating or very satisfying.

Could be this is his mother's maiden name?

There are 2 possible William Tanns on the 1841. I'd strongly recommend that getting one of his children's birth certificates for mother's maiden name and then working back to the marriage is the only way to be sure of tracing the right person.
