Find Ancestors

Hello me again. My friend began researching her family in 1991 but got nowhere with her maternal line. The information she had was her g grandfathers name William but not her g grandmothers name. She knew the names of the children but could find no birth records for them.

I have the family on the 1911 and 1901 censuses.

1901
William Reen b 1853 in Wadhurstfield Sussex I assume he means Wadhurst.

Elizabeth Reen wife born 1854 Kingston upon Thames Surrey
Frederick Reen born 1881 Horsmonden Kent
Ellen Reen born 1883 " "
Joseph Reen born 1887 "
Alice Reeen born 1890 "

In 1911 they are living Brenchley Kent with Joseph and Alice still at home.

My friends grandmother is Williams eldest daughter Mary Ann Reen she isn't on the censuses, she married Edward Giles in 1894 at Horsmonden.

I searched the Horsmonden 1881 and 1891 censuses individually but found nothing also searched nearby villages as William was an agricultural worker again nothing.

My friend thinks it is possible her family were gypsies but I thought I would give all you enthusiastic people a try to see what other sites you have access to might turn up. My research all done on Ancestry

Marie the 1911 census ( I had to check every ED district one at a time to find them) He spells his name Reene it say they have been married 40 years had 7 children and seven still alive. Joseph and Alice aged 23 and 21 still at home both born Goudhurst Kent it is on this census he says he was born in Wadhurstfield

Maureen you have the right 1911 census but I read it as Reene not Reeve the n does look like a v especially on old BMD indexes where things get smudged.

Rutlandbell I have the Giles family it is Reen I couldn't find,

Gins thank you for the 1891 census I know there are a lot of transcription errors with names well done for spotting that. I guess I should have paid more attention when checking them out one at a time. At least back then there were only about 30 houses for each ED district unlike the 1911 where there were hundreds :-0

Mike I have no idea if William had a middle name and I have no idea what his wife's maiden name was so couldn't check out any possible marriages without sending for certificates.

Mary Ann Reen married Edward Frederick Giles Dec 8th 1894 at Hersmonden.

Harriett married James Couchman I have them on 1911 census

Jane Reen, she was told, married a Harry Collins I found a Henry Collins but no matching Jane Reen for same date.

Thank you to all who have offered information I shall now spend several happy hours checking them all out .. well it beats housework :-)

Note Wm a=28/29 appears in each family - I think they're 2 difft Wm's.

Thanks to all your efforts I now have my Reen, Ring, King, family back to 1841 and found marriage record for Williams parents as well. My friend will be exceedingly pleased and no doubt will send for various birth and marriage records as confirmation.

The Petworth Reen family was not mine others have that tree and the William born 1854 Petworth married Amelia Adsett. my family is right on the 1891 census but not the one with William and Harriott as my Williams parents. back to the drawing board thought that was too good to be true
