Thanks Shirley .In the 1881 census their are 2 john s born 1873 & 1874 but both from gateshead and none from ryhope in sunderland

you may need to get his marriage cert for his dads name

Yes i may have to do that unless i can trace the marriage in the parish records at sunderland library
Can you find him in the 1891 census befor his marriage in1894

No not found him on the 1891 or 1881 sorry
