Sorry, we had visitors and I didn't get back to this last night.

Looks like I may have to admit defeat on this one, it really looks like they either didn't cover that side of the street or it hasn't been transcribed. I'll check if there were electrol rolls going back that far when I'm next in the records office.

Thanks all for trying.

ED1 is under Barrow and not Barrow in Furness which is why I couldn't find it. The description says that it covers Newland Street but i can only find odd numbers except for No 6 and that is occupied by a Mackintosh family! It really does look as if Newland Street was forgotten!

Mel...If dau Jane Kerr 1890 was born in Jul Aug Sep then she would'nt be on the 1891 census....she should be as on03.04.1891 she would be at least six months old ....

Doing a google search, have found this record, gives the ED for another house in Newland Street, and someone else having difficulty finding someone living there - is this any help in finding my family?? - I've tried searching on GR, but this image is unavailable.

Thanks all for trying, I really appreciate your time & input, maybe I'll have to buy some credits on FMP, but I've been trying not to have to - it gets really expensive at times.

Potty Report 14 Jan 2012 13:09

The ED No for the family in 1881 is 1 - I tried to check the same ED for 1891 and there is no ED1! I know that EDs are often different for different years but it does seem a little odd that this one is missing.

Potty

Potty Report 14 Jan 2012 12:47

I would offer to check all the ED descriptions for Barrow but there are 31 plus the Workshouse (the images of which I have searched with no luck).

Perhaps someone with a FMP sub could look?

Flip

Flip Report 14 Jan 2012 12:28

Sorry, I can't access the ED number, don't have a sub for FMP. Is there anywhere else I can access this do you know? GR won't do an address search.

Potty Report 14 Jan 2012 12:17

An address search can't be done on Ancestry, but if you could post the ED No for the Newland St even numbers, I will see if the description covers odd numbers as well.

Hi Shirley, yes that's her brother & sister 1891, and Mel's 1901 is correct, typical woman, lies about her age! I do it all the time.

According to the 1881 original image William was absent at the time of the census, but it states Christina was wife of William. He was an engine driver/engineer, and I haven't found him in 1881. He died in Barrow in 1896, recorded as living 61 John Street, which I've confirmed from the ER. In 1891 he would have been about 56.

Thanks for the help!

Added, Ellen's brother Michael was married in 1889 and also gave the address in Newland Street on his marriage - (I've got him in 1891), but I wonder if FMP simply hasn't transcribed the even side of the street?

Don't think that's her Shirley, it was pretty consistent with the birth location through the other census returns & I think they stayed local to Barrow, and no sign of daughter Jane with this one.

Hi Mel,
Thanks for the reply. Yes that's the family in 1881, but I can't find Ellen or Elizabeth or their father in 1891.
