Maria Report 18 Feb 2012 15:36

My mother Margaret Turner was born in Wrexham the year 1902 married a James Izatt. I just found out that she was born with a different name but what it was I do not know anyone I could ask is now dead. Her mother was Harriet Davies and father was Richard Mark Turner both born in Wales. I actually printed out every one with the first name of Margaret born in wrexham in 1902. Any search ideas would be greatly appreciated

PM from Maria

The problem is that I do not know what her name was at birth, except her first name was Margaret. I was told by an elderly friend in Scotland that it was a common practice that if a mother could not take care of a baby for one reason or another someone would take the child and raise it as their own????

Have advised her to try the 1911 Scottish census to see if Margaret is with her parents or whether she was left behind when they moved North.

Astra Report 18 Feb 2012 17:17

Lost the plot now with this.

PM. Have explained to Maria how to get back here.

The 1911 census has them under richard Furner so it took me quite awhile to find them.. Her name was listed as Turner. I also found out she had another brother called William no one ever mentioned him. It did verify the fact that she was born in Wrexham, Wales I do know that after her father was killed her mother abandoned them taking one child with her. My mother was brought by her Aunt Meg who was a Davies Maria

They may have moved shortly after Margaret was born and registered her in Scotland. Have you checked for that? Or they may have moved and not registered her at all!

PM

Good Morning Gins: Her parents were married in 1900 in South Shields she was born in 1902 I really do not know the month or the day she was born. Yes she was married and died in scotland in fact the 1911 census has her living in Fife. Her parents were living in Wrexham according to the 1901 census Maria

Along shot there are a couple of Margaret Thomas births wonder if she could have been a child of William and Mary who they were living with and for some reason they brought her up as theirs?
