Find Ancestors

HI I am trying to find information on Ann Clay born c1811 married to Edward Rhodes. They were married at St Martins in the Field, London, in June 1832. Edward was convicted of theft and transported to Tasmania in 1834. Ann was possibly pregnant when Edward left but the trail has gone cold on Ann and what happened to her and their child.

Any help greatly appreciated especially from the fantastic people that have helped me in the past!!!

Thanks Chris. This is great. Fits in as Edward was supposedly convicted of stealing bedding for his wife (who was possibly pregnant) and his occupation has been found as tailor/upholsterer.

I am sure I found a death of a John Rhodes aged 3 but unfortunately I cannot put my hand on it at the moment.

I have no idea when John was born. I have plenty of information on what happened to Edward who was transported and then remarried and have got to the end of the line on that side but am now trying to find out what happened to Ann and son John who probably died young, The only thing I know about Ann was that she was born in Hackney and when Edward was transported she was still in Hackney.

There's a second copy of the baptism on Ancestry, not so faint. It definitely gives date of birth as 21 Oct. 1833.

Thanks. Just had a look at one of my trees which says that when Edward was transported in 1834 his wife and child were living in Hackney. Also when Edward remarried in 1842 on his marriage certificate it said he was a widower.

It doesn't quite add up if he was convicted and transported in 1834 but the child was born in 1833. Evidently Ann wasn't pregnant when he left.

I understand what you are saying but I did say that Ann was possibly pregnant - that was what I was told. It could well be that he stole the bedding for some other reason.

Hi Christine - there isn't an 1831 census (apart from a small area of Sheffield).

I am trying to find out where Edward Rhodes married to Ann (nee Clay) were living in 1831 especially Ann. Edward was born in Croydon and they were married in 1832 at St Martin in the Fields Church, Westminster, London. Edward was transported to Australia in 1834.
