Find Ancestors

William Rowland was my husbands 2 x gt grandfather. He was born in 1833 in Ireland.The first I think I find of him is in 1851 in Birkenhead, Cheshire. The first I know for sure it is him is in 1861, where my husbands gt grandfather is shown, John born in Scotland 1857. The family is now living in Bishopwearmouth, Durham.
If anyone could help me at all I would be grateful as I have now come to a dead end on this one.

This is correct, I have 'William died down the coal mine in 1878

Do you have the birth certificates of either John or William. Scottish birth certificates usually have the date and place of parents marriage.

No I havent but it seems like a good thing to do.

According to the 1911, William was born in Hamilton, Lanarkshire.

John was born in Glasgow.

Im pretty sure, William died in 1878 down the mines but Im not sure how to find the irish census. I will get Johns birth certificate, as that will be a start. Thanks so much for all your help

I think that this may be your man but alas in 1859 they didn't give the date and place of the parents marriage.

So no marriage to an Ann. (I wondered if John was Ann's son before she married William).


Perhaps a birth certificate for one on the younger children to verify Ann's maiden surname as it is illegible on William junior's birth registration.

Gut feeling, I don't think any of those Johns are yours. I would go for a certifiacte of either Joseph or Christopher.
