Find Ancestors

Edward Bartlett b.1858 is my husbands great grandfather but I don't know very much about him. I have him on 1891, 1901 and 1911 census but I haven't been able to find a marriage for him to Edith Jarvis and so I don't know who is father is and don't know how to find out and be sure.

I have birth certificate for daughter Dorothy b.1892 but can't find any relatives. I do know that in 1920 Edith Jarvis left England to go and live with her son Henry in Canada without her husband.

I did find an Edward Bartlett in 1881 living in Streatham but I'm sure it states that he is married and it couldn't be to Edith as she wasn't born un 1869.

I would be grateful for any help on this one please.

Where was their daughter born?

Ann, she was born in Fulham, full name Dorothy Marguerite

Tried a few variations for marriage ..no result. Did Edith or Edward have additional names?

Where is Edward saying born?

For Edward on all census he was born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire

On Dorothy's birth certificate his name is Edward Henry Bartlett.

I found an Edward William Bartlett born 1857 in Wycombe but even if I bought the certificate I have nothing to go on to be sure it was the right one. If I could have found a marriage for him and Edith I would know who his father was and could go further back.

Maureen, I found the marriage for Kate Maria and though it could be his sister. I've just printed off the 1911 census and compared the signature and I think it could possibly be him. If it is, then I at least know which family to follow. The marriage to Edith is still a mystery.

On 1911 census they state they have been married 24 years which should be about 1887 but still looking and can't find a marriage.

How did we get from EDITH to ELLEN please?

Edith Jarvis is the wife of Edward Bartlett on 1891, 1901 and 1911 census.

Beejay has found the family living in 1871 and the mother of Edward Bartlett is Ellen.

I've only been looking at this family since last night and wasn't sure if they were the correct Bartletts. I think now they may be.
