I am trying to tack down both parents names (incluidng mother's maiden name if possible) and place of birth for Louisa Hislop born 1 November 1902.

EDIT This one was registered in Jan 1902 so too early for your Louisa.

You could try finging her in the 1911 census then using that info search for her parents marriage but the best way to confirm the parents names are to buy the birth cert

I believe she is definitely a Hislop and not Heslop. My mother said she did live in Birmingham and her father's name was Matthew Hislop. Louisa HIslop had 5 children all with the surname Muir (Louisa Mary , 1923; Barbara, Teeny, c1932; John Muir c1933 and my mother Mary born 11 Aug 1937 in Beith, Ayrshire) I have one of her daughters birth certificates which states that she live at 12 Court 3 Brearley Street. This daughter was called Louisa Mary Muir born on 5 July 1923.

John Muir, we are not sure where he came from as my mother thought he came from Ayrshire but not sure how he got to meet his wife in Birmingham area. He had a step brother called William McPherson, born c1899.

Louisa Hislop's father's name was Matthew Hislop and he also married a Louisa but don't know her maiden name but would really like to know her mother's maiden was but hopefully this will come. My mother said she thought she or her mother again could be of Italian descent?

So to clarify Matthew Hislop married Louisa? who had three daughters

If Matthew was louisa's father then the marriage posted by MaureeninNY looks to be correct but you now say Louisa Mary? not Louisa born 1 Nov 1902 could the middle name have been added after registration? such as when baptised?

I think you are right the information from Maureen looks like it might be what I am looking for. I think I should get the marriage certificate for both 1902 Matthew Hislop to Louisa Wooding and then their child's marriage certificate John Muir to Louisa Hislop .

Louisa Hislop born 1 November 1902 and John Muir married in 1924 and had 5 children (all Muir)

Louisa Mary born 5 July 1923, she has the address listed as 12 Court 3 Brearley St, Birmingham (this cert I have)

Barbara (who I believe died only a few months old)

Teeny born c1932

John born c1933

Mary born 11 August 1937 in Beith, Ayrshire, Scotland

If anyone had any census information on this family group that would be really helpful as I didn't realise how interesting that was until I read Maureen's post - thanks. Looks like the boarder and the niece got together. Do you think her (Louisa Wooding born 1885 parents had died then?

The census's have a 100 year closure

The 1921 is the next one to be made available but will not be released untill 2022
