Find Ancestors

I am searching for my natural grandmother Mary Edith Ashcroft. She married Francis John Ivanhoe Gore on 01/09/1939 at St Johns, Meols, Wirral, Cheshire. She gave birth to Marguarite E. Gore in Wolverhamton on 08/05/1941. They returned to Meols to live only for Mary to leave the family home never to return. I am unable to find her records anywere if anyone can help? Jon C

I now have the Marriage cert, father was a Charles Ashcroft a school teacher living in grassendale, Liverpool 18. Mary was 23 when she got married on 7th Sept 1939, so presumably born in 1916. She was also a school teacher. I think they may have lived in North Yorkshire before moving to Liverpool but am unable to find a birth Cert.
Any help appreciated

Hello John, where and when was she born? Do you have her exact date of birth - very useful for identifying later death records.

We at least need her approximate age to have a chance of finding anything.

Peter - she IS an ancestor and may no longer be alive.

According to several totally unsourced trees on Ancestry, Mary Edith was born 1918 and died 1965 - no exact dates or locations given. Some say she died Cheshire, some say Birkenhead.

Jonathan has Mary Ashcroft born 1918 in his tree.
Unfortunately no Mary E Ashcroft showing for that year in free bmd.
Marriage certificate for name of Father is needed, etc.

It's a (surprisingly) common name!

How old was she when she married?

I have assumed she was 22 years old when married, The family rumour was that her family came from Jersey, Apparently she ran off with another chap!!!! she was in the land army it is said.

Mary Ashcroft born 1915 left Southampton 1959 for New York.

If she was born in the Channel isles its highly unlikely you will find

that information online.

I still think this belongs on Find Living Relatives.

As advised I have the Marriage cert: Mary Edith Ashcroft was aged 23 when marrying in Sept 1939. She was a School Mistress. Her father was Charles Ashcroft also a school master living at Grassendale, Liverpool 18'
This suggests she was born in 1916 possibly in Liverpool
