I am trying to find any details about Richard Conyards Hughes b. about 1820. His wife is Eliza Ursula Hughes.

This info is listed on the New South Wales Baptism Certificate, for Richard Conyards Hughes b. 27 Jan 1856.

There is a Richard Hughes who fits all the criteria ....... born ca 1811, Lowestoft, Suffolk, occupation Carpenter ,,,,,,, on the 1851 Census, EXCEPT his wife is called Eleanor


This Richard Hughes may not be the same one as you want ....................


He is still on the 1861 English Census ....... as a Ship's Carpenter, on the Vessel Resolute, a Telegraph Repair ship.

Yes the Census and the wife's name probably discount him.

The family story is that the Hughes' came from Wales, were boat builders and one son went to USA, and the other son went Australia.

I can't locate the birth, death, marriage or arrival of Richard Conyards Hughes (b.1820 about).

The baptism certificate for the son says the father was a builder (Sydney NSW 1856).

well, the information on the 1851 Census was Carpenter and Builder!


it's all very circumstantial .......... yet fits together!!



One of the ancestry trees also has an older child born in Australia ......

Interestingly, that also seems to be the name of one of Richard Conyers Hughes sisters , b. 10/11/1792 Lowestoft.

Yes that is true. But he must have died somewhere? :-(

This looks as though it could be the marriage of the Richard Hughes and Eleanor ....... the 1851 Census shows her born in Oulton, Suffolk (I looked at the original on ancestry, and ti is Oulton, not Boulton)

must be a relative..
cannot find any births or marriages etc for other parties.
