Being a bit cheeky because I don't want to pay for WW1 records. Bertie was my father's brother and I believe he died in 1917 in WW1.

Obviously my belief was unfounded. I assumed it was him because I could not find any record beyond 1911 when he was living with his Aunt and Uncle (Bishops) in Soham.

Not sure if correct person as date of birth wrong.

EDIT WW1 record is Bertie William Docking.

Think that is the one referred to above which unfortunately is not him. He seems to have disappeared after 1911!

Hi Paul, yes I agree, the wrong one, but where has he gone? Maybe emigrated, have you checked that?

William John was his elder brother. He served and survived WW1 but I have been told he suffered shell-shock and died slightly deranged in 1932.

Paul, I know you're looking for Bertie, but have you traced his brother Wiliam John to see where that leads? And not sure what you are referring to when you posted "It would be latter"?

Think our threads crossed, so you've found Willliam Johns death. I thought he may have given you some lead, but obviously not.

Can't find a birth or a census entry for this Docking. Could Bertie's name have been incorrectly entered onto the index?
