Frances Report 29 Oct 2012 09:52

Hi Reggie, no I have not lost interest but I thought my comment about Zachariah being a different family had ended the thread and over the weekend we had family visiting and briefly the living take precedence over the dead!
I am most grateful for your find of another grandson Francis, who is with the same family. At least a birth certificate for him is possible though he is not in the direct line I am researching.
When I was trawling through Family Search I came across other potential children but their place of birth was slightly moved from Thornton but not far :-

name: Elizabeth Wardell
gender: Female
baptism/christening date: 31 Oct 1816
baptism/christening place: St. Michael's, New Malton, York, England
father's name: Francis Wardell
mother's name: Mary
indexing project (batch) number: C02214-2

name: John Wardell
gender: Male
baptism/christening date: 15 Mar 1818
baptism/christening place: EBENEZER CHAPEL SAVILLE STREET-INDEPENDENT,NEW MALTON,YORK,ENGLAND
birth date: 27 Feb 1818
father's name: Francis Wardell
mother's name: Mary Haddleston
indexing project (batch) number: C08787-1

name: William Wardell
gender: Male
baptism/christening date: 31 Jul 1831
baptism/christening place: WYKEHAM, NR. MALTON, YORK,ENGLAND
father's name: Francis Wardell
mother's name: Mary
indexing project (batch) number: C04165-2

It seems from your 1841 census that William was correct. I also found a marriage that could suit the family but again slightly out of area :-

groom's name: Francis Wardell
bride's name: Mary Huddlestone
marriage date: 12 Apr 1812
marriage place: Seamer Near Scarborough,York,England
indexing project (batch) number: M10618-2

Have you any ideas on how one can establish the link?
