I think that you need to buy the marriage certificate to find out Ellen / Nelly's father's name. As she was 50 when she married Arthur it is quite likely that she had been married previously and wasn't born Howell.

When did Arthur leave his first wife please?

It may be that Arthur and Ellen had children together before he was divorced and free to marry.

The family seem to have lived at 7 Cloudsley Place for quite a while.

On various ERs Arthur Charles is there with an Edwin and Eleanor Jane Collings (his parents?) and a Helen Alexandra (his wife?). In 1936 a Doris Annie is also listed and the occupants remain the same until 1939 when there is no mention of a Helen Alexandra.

However, in 1939 there is also an Augustus Henry Robert Cook and an Ellen Elsie Cook at number 7.

Helen is back there in 1945 but gone again from 1948.

If Arthur Charles married Ellen in 1949 then it doesn't look like he and Helen had been apart for very long.

Collings first names Eleanor Jane Burial date 24 Jun 1948 Authority London Borough of Islington.
