Thank you to everyone , who has helped me with my journey of discovery in to the mystery of Lucy Knott, My Great Auntie. Growing up I knew very little except she had married and emigrated to American Had a son and adopted a son, this adopted son accidently shot the real son. But Gt Aunt Lucy and her husband who I now know was Herbert Heasell, felt that John had gone through enough and brought him up as their own son. I often wonder just who were Johns real parentsd and the real story wnich brought about his adoption. I use to corrispond with John s wife Susan, but when she died, John stopped writing and I just assumed he had died. But it seems he could be still alive so now I shall look for him again. He is sort of a second cousin to me. I know a lot about Lucys sister who was killed by enemy bombing during the blitz on Bath, she and her husband Oliver Cox were killed by a direct hit on their house and they are buried wityh all the others who were killed that night, in Haycombe chemitory, Bath. Their two sons survived one was in the army and the other was under them.. Thank you also to MC and Flip for sorting out Sarah Knott for me this has put together the mystery of who Sarah married and I remembering visiting people called Hemmings in Atworth, I think his name was Wilf so I assume was a Wilfred..he had an amazing sense of humour I thought they were just friends of the faomily, but now I find they were mums cousins just need to find the linc back to Sarah and Arthur Hermmings. Anyway thank you all for your help. |

I think that also confirms that baby Wilfred will have died, there is no sign of him on the census or later records - and if he had been adopted then his original birth record would have been "over-written" |

I think they must have been a very big hearted family to keep John after what happened. |

That is a great find MC, I'm pretty sure you've nailed it. When will the American's learn guns are not good? That family must have been traumatised by such an event, it just doens't bear thinking about. |

I couldn't find a death for baby Wilfred but I think there may be a separate register. |

Just a week after the birth of Wilfred, so that looks very likely MC. Wonder what happened to the baby? |

He's clearly with the other household, but I wonder if Winifred gave the details if they were not at home when the census man called? |

Flip - yes looked at the image but didn't notice the family below! Do you think Harold has been recorded as brother to the wrong family? |

Did you look at the image MC? The next family listed are called Wallace, including Winifred, who's age fits and she states she is English/Canada - could just be a coincidence though. |
