So where did the name Betchley come from?

I think Eliza was married when she was in Canada.
I think the son was born after marriage.
Eliza wrote to my mother. at some point in the past she was told her married name was Betchley. My mother died in 1985.
I am trying to find out what year she went to Canada on what boat.
Perhaps a previous marriage name was Lawton.
Some how the dates of Eliza Lawton 31 and Elizabeth Becket aged 44 don't tally

Hello Pamela Joy, Elizabeth Beckett's age on the 1911 arrival is actually listed as 47. As she is Eliza Jones' mother I think we can safely assume that she and her second husband John Charles Beckett had lopped a few years off of their ages to ensure gaining entry to Canada.

Also on that 1911 arrival Eliza Lawton's marital status is "W" signifying she was a widow.

I see on that marriage of Eliza to William Henry Betchley one of the witnesses was J.C. Beckett. Presumably Eliza's step-father.

I don't see anyone on the 1921 census.
