Hi Nyx, still seeking Isaac, I have found his nationalisation record but still no immigration papers I have been told he may have changed his name on arrival in UK to something less obviously foreign, have you any idea what to do next.

Hi Nyx I realise a lot of researchers get things wrong, on one tree an ancestor of mine is credited with14 children who actually belong to someone else.

I
Now I have slept on it I am wondering if the fourth daughter was actually Evelyn and perhaps Esther was the mother. Just a thought.

Thanks for your help Nyx.

Marjorie.

Marjorie never assume that any tree on Ancestry is correct unless it has the sources, many are so far out as to be a nonsense, according to most my father did not exist so neither do I lol.

Where was Adeline born? I can see a marriage but not a birth for her?

marjorie

marjorie Report 13 Dec 2017 21:14

That's the right Morris.

The son the Inselbergs had in 1998 was called Oser , so he wasn't with them at the time of 1911 census . The third daughter Adeline was born in 1913.

Re the Mc Kendrick family tree on Ancestry : The Inselbergs had 7 children in 15 years 3boys and four girls. One of the three daughters we know of married a Mc Kendrick so I am assuming they have the count right. I wonder if she became an outcast from the family for becoming pregnant by a much older married man.

Morris was a Tailor Outfitter he had a shop on the Strand and perhaps Woolwich High Street at some time. He was born1875 to Isaac and Sophia Gabriel. Isacc was a Russian/polish immigrant who became a naturalised British Citizen in 1882.

Hi Nyx I don't think there was a marriage as Morris was married to Evalyne Kahane. The name is a coincidence. Evelyn's mother was the daughter of Julius and Esther Insleberg who according to Ancestry had Four daughters and three sons but I can only find three daughters. The parents and the six children I can find were all born in Bucharest. The parents married in 1900 but Julius had a so born 1998 perhaps Ester was the mother and he was born before the marriage. I think Evelyn's mother must have been very young.

Thanks Marjorie.

Marjorie he was 3 weeks old according to the inscription.

marjorie

marjorie Report 3 Dec 2017 16:45

Perhaps Abraham was not stillborn as I have just noticed his birth probably was not registered at the same time as his mothers death as Sophie's death was on page 600 and Abrahams was on page 603. ???

Rambling

Rambling Report 3 Dec 2017 16:25

Morris was reg first qtr 1875 so could be Jan' Feb or March birth
Abraham Sept qtr. so birth and death July Aug or Sept'.

You would need birth certs to be sure of exact dates,

From Chris's link "West Ham Jewish Cemetery (Buckingham Rd) Find all individuals with events at this location
Inscription: Sophia beloved wife of Isaac GABRIEL of Woolwich who departed this life to the deep grief of her sorrowing husband family and friends July 18th 1875 5635 aged 25. Also her infant son aged 3 weeks. "

marjorie

marjorie Report 3 Dec 2017 16:06

Now I have had time to get all this info digested I think l understand it. I had Sophia's death as 18th July 1875 from two different sources so was puzzled about a birth after her death. Through Chris Ho I now find she died in September 1875.
Correct me please if I am wrong. Morris was born sometime in March 1875 soon after which Sophia must have become pregnant with Abraham. As Sophia and Abraham both died in the September of 1875 I am assuming perhaps Abraham was still born and mother and son died at the same time.

Re "Cohen hands" - it doesn't seem to mean that anyone buried there is or was necessarily a Cohen:

http://cemeteryscribes.com/blog/tombstone-symbols-cohen-hands/

Apparently, it means he was a descendant of Aaron, brother of Moses.

quarters are

Jan, Feb, March
April, May, June
July, Aug, Sep
Oct, Nov, Dec.

But as parents have 6 weeks to register it can often be that the birth is registered in the following qtr, or even the next year as mine, born Dec one year registered in Jan of the next.
