OH ignore me... Elvira Sartori! There just seem to be so many William Mcnairs around that time I have no idea how to determine which is the right one

What's the Sartori relation? Or is that unrelated?

I'm trying to find criminal records currently to help me pin down any more deets, as I know William Arthur Mcnair was in prison in 1924 (charged by Greenwich Magistrate)... but my amateur sleuthing skills are making it hard!!!

Hmmm that is really interesting, I have a vague memory of our McNair side having family either in America or Oceania...

I can't find divorce records for Maud and William Arthur, but I'm fairly new to the game so I'm not sure if those are readily available?

Aware this was 6 years ago, but it's worth a try...

William Arthur McNair (Married to Maud Stephens) was my great-great grandad and there's a family rumour that he went missing! According to my granny, Maud and him did not get along and he either ran away or there's a slightly more sinister rumour that Maud had a hand in it somehow...

He was a chauffeur to Lord Alfred Mond, and there's actually an article which says that William Arthur McNair was arrested and sent to prison for 6 months in 1924 for leaving his wife and children (it was published because he was meant to be driving Lord Mond somewhere).

Anyway, I can't find out what happened to him after prison - so on the off chance that anyone on this thread sees this, please reach out if you have found out anything else!

Ancestry (for whatever that's worth) suggests that Heather J McNair or Ball was previously Rae.

If (big if) there's any truth in that - a previous marriage ??
