Hi,

My GG Grandmother was Caroline Colocott (nee Goodall) (Born 1848). I already have a thread on here re the Colocott name but am now turning my attention to the Goodall side (sometimes spelt Goodhall).

In various census, Caroline gives her place of birth as Wavendon or Woburn which seem to be very close together on the Bedfordshire/Buckinghamshire border.

Any information on Goodall’s from that area would be of interest, but so far I have the following:

Caroline’s wedding certificate in 1864 in Lambeth lists her father as George Goodall.

I have found a birth certificate of a Caroline Goodhall in Wavendon from 1848 that lists her parents as George and Susanna Goodhall (formerly Goodhall)

There is a George Goodall marrying a Susanna Goodall (maybe related in some way - hopefully distant!). This was in 1846 in Wavendon and their fathers were both labourers; John (George’s father) and Joseph (Susanna’s father)

I am not sure how Caroline came to be marrying in Lambeth at the age of 16 and wondered if any one could help me find that out what happened to her parents (I can’t find death records for either)

Many Thanks

I think both of these relate to the same incident:

Clive Report 1 Jul 2019 14:14

Hi, Thanks for all the replies!

I have that 1848 Newport Pagnell birth certificate and believe that is her. Father: George, Mother: Sussana

I had seen the assault conviction but not the sheep stealing. Maybe he was transported. Presumably that means Australia. I wonder if there are records that can trace his passage? I doubt if many returned to England afterwards.

I hadn't picked up that 1851 census putting her with relatives in London. I wonder where the mother has gone by then? She seems to disappear after the birth but I can't find a death that fits.

Also, it would be unusual to be an only child in those days but can only find one other possible sibling, Charles George Goodhall Born 1853. There is an 1861 census with that name born in "Walberton Buckinghamshire" which doesn't exist. Could be him but no other evidence.

I would be surprised if that is him in New York but might be worth looking at more if I can't find him in UK or transported.

That is likely to be him in the 1841 census though. I he a servant then or just a lodger?
