Find Ancestors

Could anybody help me fill the gap between the above lady being born Medlicott and then marrying my uncle and being described on the marriage certificate as Eveline Lizzie Worner formerrly Freeman. I just cant find the missing link!! :-(

Was your Uncle Albert Worner? If so she must have been Eveline Lizzie Medlicott, formerly Freeman on the marriage cert.

Her birth isn’t registered in either surname

She doesn’t show on any census before the marriage either

Maybe she was illegitimate but her mum later married a mr Medlicott


Who does she name as her father on the marriage cert

Hello Rose. It seems I shall have to send for their marriage certificate to get the info.I cannot hope to get the correct birth certificate without more information. I can only see two births with that name and neither registered in Droitwich..

Bear in mind that she may never have known her father, so anyone named on the marriage cert could be fictitious- or a stepfather

As she was born before there were penalties for not registering, there may simply not be a birth cert

Was just looking at family trees on Ancestry. Very confusing!
Some trees have the parents of Albert Worner who married Eveline Lizzie Medicott as Joseph Worner & Hannah Cox. Others have John William Worner & Joanna Wymmock, Other trees have Robert Worner married to Evelinr Lizzie Medicott and his parents are Joseph Worner & Mary Locock.

Ancestry trees can usually be treated as works of fiction

It strongly looks like her birth wasn’t registered and she may have been taken in by the medlicott family so was known as that name till she married
She must have known her birth surname though to give that detail

The info from the marriage cert is needed to try and identify her

But even if her birth wasn't registered, she should still appear on 1871 and 1881 censuses under one name or other - but there's no sign of her.

Even searching with variations of her first name(s) and no surname, there's nothing that I can see. She seems to have sprung from nowhere.

I agree - the Medlicott/Worner marriage cert is needed - although of course any stated father's name could be fictional if she didn't know her father.
