‘Marked as answered’ can’t be undone

And, as I said before, you can’t put images on the boards.

Not that it would help, to be honest, as no-one on here knows the people in question

Hilda Report 23 Aug 2020 13:32

I do not know what I have done - can it be undone. I wanted to put the photograph to show everyone that is helping me who I am talking about.

It's unfortunate that you 'masrked as answered' That is intended to denote that no further help is required

Where are you trying to upload to?

You can't put images on these boards - you can only save them in your keepsafe

Thank you all...Matilda. was my Grandma, her daughter was Lucy she gave me the photo...asked her what girl in black name...A.Lucy told me no one can remember her name, she was James and Betty's daughter and that she was never spoken about, A.Lucy remembers that she was disabled and put in a home, she never married and lived to a good age.

I have tried to upload the photograph but it keeps failing.

PM from Hilda today to say the "girl" was not with the family in 1911. This is the 1901 and she's not there either. Presumably Hilda has checked the 1901 for grandparents and other family members to see if the child is there.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Aug 2020 21:14

At least two of the trees on Ancestry says the unknown daughter was born in Limburg, Netherlands.
Seems highly unlikely!

Others say Ross & Cromarty.

But none have her name or actual DOB or POB.

It does seem strange that nobody knows her name.
The family were clearly in touch with her, as she's in the photo (at least we assume it's her), and her sisters would obviously know her name, so it's odd that no record or family knowledge remains.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Aug 2020 21:02

The only female Hamilton births registered in Ross-shire 1896-8 are Helen Jane (1897 Urray) and Ann (1896 Urquhart and Logie Wester).

Helen Jane is with her parents George and Helen in 1901.

I don't see Ann in censuses. She may have died aged 2 (named Anne) in 1898 in Kiltarlity, which is in the same general area.

There are no deaths in Inverness-shire in 1979-81 of anyone named Hamilton with mms Munro.
Also no female deaths of a Munro with mms Munro.

There is a well researched tree on ancestry belonging to the granddaughter of Matilda.
There are beautiful family photos as well including the one at the croft.

She has these as the daughters

Elizabeth "Bessie" Ann (step father Hamilton) Munro
1890–1957
Birth 1890 • Ross and Cromarty, Berwickshire, Scotland
Death 1957 • Inverness Burg, Inverness-shire, Scotland

Margaret Ann "Maggie" (step father Hamilton) Munro
1895–1994
Birth 13 NOV 1895 • Rosemarkie, Petty, Ross-shire, Scotland
Death 30 APR 1994 • Donalda, Stettler, Alberta, Canada

Unknown Hamilton
Unknown Hamilton
1897–1980
Birth 1897? • Ross and Cromarty, Scotland
Death 1980 • Inverness, Scotland

Matilda Thomson "Tilda" Hamilton
1899–1984
Birth 30 DEC 1899 • Bogochro Fodderty Scotland
Death 15 AUG 1984 • 18, Torredon, Park, Forres, Moray, Scotland

Christina Gregor "Chrissy" Hamilton
1904–1985
Birth 2 APR 1904 • Knockbain, Ross and Cromarty , Scotland
Death 4 APR 1985 • Inverness, Inverness-shire, Scotland

As James said there were 3 children born in the marriage in the 1911 census, he must be excluding the older 2 girls.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Aug 2020 17:29

If Hilda is correct in saying that her family had 4 (or 5) daughters, that can't be the right family.

What were the daughters' names, Hilda?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Aug 2020 17:20

Margaret Ann's birth before the marriage:

MUNRO
MARGARET ANN
F
1895
080/ 37
Rosemarkie and Fortrose

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Aug 2020 17:16

POB's from 1911 census:

James - Watten, Caithness
Elizabeth - Rossken, Ross-shire [ mis-spelling of Rosskeen ]
Margrett - Rosemarkie, Ross-shire
Matilda - Fodderty, Ross-shire
Christina - Knockbain, Ross-shire.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 13 Aug 2020 17:13

Why would you suggest that the birth was 1895-9 if the parents didn’t marry until 1897?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Aug 2020 17:05

Hilda -
how do you know the girl in black was born 1895-99?

Matilda's death is the only one showing on SP of a female Hamilton with mms Munro, born in that timeframe.

Her birth :

HAMILTON
MATILDA THOMSON
F
1900
065/ 1
Fodderty

It's the first birth registered in Fodderty in 1900, so she could have been born at the end of 1899.

alviegal

alviegal Report 13 Aug 2020 16:48

James and Betsy's marriage. Her name was, seemingly, Elizabeth Ann.

HAMILTON

JAMES

MUNRO

ANNIE

1897

081/ 7

Rosskeen

We need more info from the poster - at the moment, it’s all speculation.

Have had a look at the 1911 census posted earlier by rootgatherer (few credits left over from a Scottish search for a friend)

James said to be born Watten, Caithness-shire and the rest Ross-shire -
Elizabeth - Rossken, Margrett - Rosemarkie, Matilda - Foddetry and Christina - Knockbain

They are said to have been married 15 years and had 3 children all still living

-------------------------------

and here the 1901 (main parts previously posted by ErikaH)

1901 England, Wales & Scotland Census
Balloch Farm Steading, Inverness, Invernessshire, Scotland

First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Sex Age Birth year Occupation Birth place
James Hamilton Head Married Male 31 1870 Farm Serv Watten, Caithness, Scotland
Betty Hamilton Wife Married Female 30 1871 - Ross & Cromarty, Scotland
Margaret Ann Hamilton Daughter - Female 5 1896 - Rosemarkie, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland
Matilda T Hamilton - - Female 1 1900 - Fodderty, Ross & Cromarty, Scotland

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 13 Aug 2020 15:33

So those two had both married, and can’t be the one being sought.
