And yes, the birth date given for the Alice who died in Islington was 23 Aug 1889.

As said, that matches the DOB given for the Alice in Lever Street in 1939.

Re the Syrett/Osborne children - look them up on FreeBMD - no need to put in dates.
They are the only children with that combination of parents' surnames.

The woman's maiden name should be on the death cert - assuming the informant knew it, of course

Just a quick update. The Alice living with Arthur Charles Ballard Syrett whom she had a son with called Charles Arthur in 1913 gives her maiden name as Ballard on her sons birth certificate but on her death certificate in 1983 her maiden name is Boobier. A bit odd.

Searching 1911 census for 'Alice' b 1890, Islington...................

1911 Census For England & Wales
24 Sekforde Street Clerkenwell London E C, St James and St John Clerkenwell, London & Middlesex, England
Arthur Ballard Head Married Male 25 1886 Shipping Packer Out Of Work Hoxton Midd
Alice Ballard Wife Married Female 21 1890 Box Making Islington Midd

SAYS married 3 years, but no record of the alleged 'marriage' as far as I can see. Fits with his still being married to Alice, Mk1.

He signed the record Arthur Charles Ballard
NO children

Registration district for above is HOLBORN - as was birth in 1913. What is the address on the cert?

Hi ErikaH
Many thanks for the census information on the Boobier family it fills in a few gaps. The address on the birth certificate for Charles Arthur Syrett in 1913 is 24 Sekforde Street. As you can see that their surname is now Syrett not Ballard which was on the 1911 census.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 14 Apr 2021 10:26

Confirms that the couple calling themselves Ballard in 1911 were the parents and resolves your query about Alice No 2.

Douglas

Douglas Report 14 Apr 2021 16:46

The informant on the death certificate for Alice was her son Charles Arthur Syrett.
