New thread started, about George Edward Fauxcroft Wade's military career:

Have advised keeping all info together on this thread rather than the new one, for context and identification of the right man..

New OP copied here:

H, I have an ancestor, George Edward Wade who, according to Surrey Police enlistment docs, served with the 11th Reg of Foot 1848 to 1859. Although I know George was born in Marylebone London I am wondering if his army enlistment papers of 1848 would show parents/address etc. Who would be best placed to help.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 27 Jul 2021 18:44

There are no military records for him on Ancestry.

There are 4 records of men named George Wade who served in the Crimean War - but not in that regiment.

Nothing on forces-war-records.co.uk either.

As suggested I will now put all the ' leads I have regarding George E F Wade on one thread. After leaving army in 1858 He joined Met Police, serving in Peckham Division. Would his enlistment docs for met show address/parents etc.
Also be left the met in 1961 to join Surrey Police in same year with a gap of a few months. His enlist ment doc states he was in business with his mother and have an address: 4, Poplar Row, New Kent Road, London. Though I have no first name for his mother, would trade directories give some useful info.
Thanks

I don't know London districts well, but Google says New Kent Road is in Southwark
But one site says Poplar Row, New Kent Road is now called Tarn Road, in Newington.

But, wherever it was, I don't see it on the London ER for c1861.
Nor either George or Elizabeth Wade in the east of London - not as Wade, Fauxcroft, or Foxcroft..

The 1829 baptism of George Edward Foxcroft posted above (if that's him, which seems quite likely) says his mother's name was Elizabeth.
