Jink20 and ErikaH, you are both right regarding Samuel Glasgow in High Wycombe, he lived there with his 2nd wife, they had 3 children.
I now have the birth certificate of their daughter Maureen b.1962 .Samuel Glasgow and Mary McCabe being her parents. She was born July 1962 in Dungannon. Maureen married ??? had a daughter who im very good friends with, the daughters birth certificate hasnt got the fathers name on. So I am tracing back on the Glasgows for her as she has the surname Glasgow, At least sh enow understands that some of the elder people she used to see were her grandparents etc., This has been very complex but my friend is so happy of where she actually comes from. A VERY BIG THANK YOU. This I admit has not been easy, but a successful outcome.

What - precisely - are you looking for???????

Have you thought of buying copy certs to get facts? You’ve been advised to get the marriage cert and haven’t given any indication of your intention so to do.

Looking at the above records, it may well be that Samuel left Mary and took up with a younger woman, without marrying her

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 12 Feb 2025 13:58

"married a woman in England" -

If you mean Mary Theresa McCabe, they married in Scotland, not England.

See post on 29 Jan @ 17:04.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 12 Feb 2025 13:57

You state that he married in ENGLAND............what was the woman's name? And when did it take place? There is NOTHING on freebmd or Ancestry, or FMP

Did he leave the Mccabe woman?

Have you read all the info people took the trouble to find for you??????

xtootsy16x Report 12 Feb 2025 13:11

Thank you for this information, I have been researching in between many things Im dealing with. I have since found out he left Ireland and married a woman in England, found his address on the electoral role, and his new wifes name and the children they both had. He died in England. And i really appreciate the other information you have found me.

The Irish BMD records are much less ‘open’ than those for the rest of UK. Their privacy rules are much stricter, I imagine.

xtootsy16x -

The Ancestry tree posted by Jink offers no documentary proof of the birth of Samuel, nor of his supposed sister Barbara in 1938.

Nor do any of the other Ancestry trees on which he appears.

His birth does not show up on irishgenealogy.ie, nor on GRONI.

The marriage cert (obtainable through Scotlands People website for £12 ) is essential to prove or disprove his parents' names.

I rather think the OP knows about the children......she refers to there being 6. It's Samuel's antecedents she wants to find .......and can easily make a start on that by purchasing a copy of his marriage cert

rootgatherer Report 30 Jan 2025 19:57

ArgyllGran, the birth you have posted for Margaret Glasgow (1957) is probably correct as the mmn IS McCabe.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 29 Jan 2025 17:31

A child named Margaret Glasgow was born in Springburn area of Glasgow in 1957.

You would need the birth cert (from Scotlands People) to check parents' names, as the transcription doesn't give mmn.

BUT -
LOTS of people surnamed Glasgow married in Glasgow before 1957 - so Margaret may have nothing whatsoever to do with Samuel & Mary.
And Springburn is NOT particularly near either Cathcart or the Gorbals.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 29 Jan 2025 17:25

This is probably them, living at 318 Cumberland Street, Gorbals in 1958:

Samuel J Glasgow [ and Mary Glasgow ]
in the Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, Electoral Registers, 1857-1962
Name Samuel J Glasgow
Residence Year 1958
Address 2059 [318 Cumberland St ]
Residence Place Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Parliamentary Division Glasgow

That was a slum area in those days. Later all demolished and rebuilt.

As you have undoubtedly been told before, there are limitations as to accessible records on 1939 Register, even when the Register is actually online, which is ONLY for ENGLAND and WALES (make a note). Anyone born less that 100 years ago whose death has not been picked up or notified WILL NOT be an open record. Please remember this for future requests.
