That's handy to know , we were thinking of getting the marriage for 1946 but a few things need sorting out first
But thank you for that it does answer a lot of questions about her other marriages

ErikaH Report 12 Jun 2026 14:38

As a Catholic, she would not have been allowed to divorce, which would be why she used her birth surname on all the marriages................

I wonder what she said was her 'status' in 1946.

Can't see any Robert Sumpton in Durham in 1939, with "wife" Mary and 2 children.

EDIT:

Oh, I see - you mean Amy.
Living in Hebburn.

The children are closed records on Ancestry.

ADDED:

They did marry eventually:

Marriages Dec 1946 (>99%)
Connor Amy Sumpton Manchester 10e 703
Sumpton Robert W Connor Manchester 10e 703

Sylann Report 12 Jun 2026 12:37

Thank you for finding the address It doesn't look as though we're getting any where with this family Thank you for the time you've spent on this

I'm thinking we have tried , and may be put a stop to it may be some more info might come up later
she had left her husband as it was in a newspaper her children had been in trouble and it was stated she had left the family before this had happenedI think she " married" again or set up home with a Robert Sumpton and was living with him in 1939 in Durham with 2 more children, According to that family they don't know much about her children adopted she died in Wythenshawe Manchester 1983 her birth date was listed as 28th Feb 1905 which marches with the birth certificate.

Thank you once again

You say ‘Mary was his wife’, but there is NO record anywhere of their having married.

The Connors were at 23 Broom Street in January - but they'd gone by 2 April.

They're not at any other number in Broom Street, either.:

Hmmm - that couple lived at 13 Matlock Street, Hyde Road, Gorton in 1911.

They were still at that address in 1939, with Elizabeth(nee Booth)'s mother Martha Booth 1859, and 2 other Booth females - Florence 1891 and Dorothy 1903.

Elizabeth and Charles married in Chorlton in 1906.

Good find, Abby (workhouse record).

The image says "see 4/1/11" which I assume means she was admitted on that date.
She was discharged c/o her mother on 6/1/11.
Informant - Father: Charles, 23 Broom/Broome Street, Ardwick.

That was also "the inmate"'s address before admission.

So Amy's age varies, which isn't helpful!

IF she's the Amy born in 1905 - and certainly father's details look as if she is - maybe she lied about her age for the 1924 marriage, in order to be thought legally an adult and not to have to have her father's approval.

Still lying in 1929, but not quite so much.

You haven’t said whether you have Amy’s marriage certificates

Amy Greenall in 1921 is a full year older than the Amy Connor whose birth cert you have.

Where is she in 1939?

Sylann

Sylann Report 12 Jun 2026 09:24

Sorry for the delay all you have found is what we have found 1921 census is the right family Frederick was married to Mary O'connor in 1913, we did wonder about Amy on that census, according to Mary's marriage father was Martin O'connor

This is why I wanted to try and find Amy's parents and hopfully find where they were from and their ages
